The Newark Valley Historical Society preserves and interprets the past of Newark Valley, Northern Tioga County and New York.  The Society operates two historic sites: The Bement-Billings Farmstead, located just north of Newark Valley on Route 38, and the Railroad Depot, inside the Village.
The Bement-Billings Farmstead is a living history museum which interprets domestic life, agricultural practices, and the natural environment of the early 1800's.  The property includes the original Bement farmhouse, a replica blacksmith shop, a reconstructed threshing barn, additional out-buildings, and 90 acres of the Bement family's farmland.  Go back in time and experience the blacksmith's hammer ringing on hot iron, cabbage soup simmering over an open fire, the wheel whirring gently under the skillful hand of a master spinner.  Take a workshop and learn a craft or skill that was a necessity to 1800's living.  Join a guild and learn traditional crafts such as spinning and weaving, open hearth cooking, blacksmithing, and black powder shooting.
The Newark Valley Depot is a restored 1880's train depot located in the center of the village of Newark Valley.  The Depot is open seasonally to accommodate visitors.  Exhibits and programs at the Depot show how the arrival of the railroad, and other forms of transportation, affected the economic and commercial development of Northern Tioga County int he late 19th and early 20th centuries.
