Newark Valley Historical Society 2010 Calendar of Events

The Board meets the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Historical Society office.

August 06 Aug. 1 Unusual Wooden Objects: Ed Nizalowski shares books on trees & interprets wooden items; @ Farmstead; 1 & 3.

Aug. 6  Absolutely Reptacular
7pm at the NV Train Depot; Prof. Rob Felt & Christina Costa present an opportunity to learn about and even hold live reptiles! 

Aug. 8 What is it?
Try to ID these items (from the Society's collection) from 1800’s farm life; @ Herrick Barn; 1-4.

Aug. 13 The Ithaca Dixieland Band The Dixiekats
7pm at the NV Train Depot; play a variety of Dixieland music: tunes made famous by Louis Armstrong, Pete Fountain, King Oliver and more.  www.ithacadixieland.com

Aug. 20 Alice Detrick
7pm at the NV Train Depot; plays and sings classic country, current hits, old favorites, inspirational, and good old country yodeling. There is something to please everyone.

Aug. 27 Hot on the Trail of the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker, 7pm at the NV Train Depot; Cornell's Living Bird magazine editor Tim Gallagher, author of The Grail Bird, tells of the 2005 rediscovery of this rare bird, once believed extinct in the U.S.
